Derek Chappell is the owner and head arborist at Bark Tree Care. He has been in the industry since 2007. His journey in the tree industry started when he moved to Boulder, Colorado after college and began working as a tree climber. He eventually became the manager of a small company, and after the company relocated, he began contract climbing for numerous companies in the Denver/Boulder area.
While contracting, he began working with Beetle Busters to help mitigate the Mountain Pine Beetle that has been destroying pine trees in the Rocky Mountains. This is where he began getting more involved with plant health care and learned about pesticide application, and fertilization.
In the summer of 2014, Derek moved to Vermont due to his wife’s job change. Before starting Bark Tree Care he had been working with Heritage Tree Care in Colchester and took over fellow arborist Ned Meehan’s Fungicide application and fertilization practices. Derek still occasionally works with Heritage Tree Care whenever their schedules line up.
Derek is an ISA Certified Arborist (RM-7492A) and also holds a Vermont Pesticide Applicator License.
Belukha is the team mascot and inspired the name change of the company. He loves coming to work with the team whenever possible.
